Charles Dickens: What Do We Expect from Great Expectations
Through a careful reading and lively discussion, we will examine the many facets of Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations, one of the most popular novels written by perhaps the most popular Victorian novelist.
We will consider the images the novel offers of the social world of mid-19th century England, and of the political and natural worlds of that period. How is this novel central to Dicken’s total corpus?
Professor Ehrstine’s seminars have been very popular and highly regarded. Texts, as well as films to aid in the study, will be available at the Library. Seating is limited, so sign-up early to reserve your seat.
